Bulk vs. bagged mulch
For areas over about 3 cubic yards, bulk delivery from a landscape supplier is almost always cheaper. For smaller areas or if you lack a truck or wheelbarrow, bagged mulch from a hardware store is more convenient.
Standard mulch depth for weed suppression is 2-3 inches. For water retention in a dry climate, go 3-4 inches. Avoid piling mulch against plant stems.
