Concrete slab calculator

The most common DIY pour. Change the dimensions to match your project.

Material Totals

Concrete volume (with waste) 1.63 cu yd
80lb premix bags needed 74 bags
60lb premix bags needed 98 bags
Raw volume (no waste) 1.48 cu yd

1 cu yd = 27 cu ft. One 80lb bag covers ~0.6 cu ft; one 60lb bag ~0.45 cu ft. For pours over ~1 cu yd, ready-mix delivery is usually more economical.

This calculator provides estimates only. Actual material needs vary with site conditions, waste, product dimensions, and installation method. Confirm quantities with your supplier or a licensed contractor before purchasing.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are these calculators?

The calculators use standard material dimensions (e.g., 80lb bags cover 0.6 cu ft of concrete) and a configurable waste factor. They give you a reliable planning estimate - always confirm quantities with your supplier before purchasing, since site conditions vary.

What is a waste factor and why does it matter?

Waste factor accounts for cuts, breakage, and material left over at edges. For concrete it is typically 10%. For tile it is 10-15% (more for diagonal layouts). For flooring it is 10%. Skipping the waste factor is the number one reason DIYers run short mid-project.

Should I buy premix bags or order ready-mix concrete?

For small pours under about 1 cubic yard (27 cu ft), premix bags are practical. Above that, a ready-mix truck delivery is faster and often cheaper per cubic yard. The concrete calculator shows both the bag count and cubic yard total so you can compare.

Do I need to create an account?
