How much sod for a 1000 sq ft lawn?
For a 1000 sq ft lawn, a sample roll covering 5 sq ft would require 200 rolls before a cutting allowance. Confirm the supplier's actual roll or pallet coverage. The calculator below estimates soil volume separately.
Sod coverage example
A 2×2.5 ft roll covers 5 sq ft. 1000 ÷ 5 = 200 rolls before any additional allowance. This is an example package size, not a standard. Use actual coverage and your chosen cutting allowance, then round up to the units sold.
Separate soil-volume example: 1/4 inch layer
At 0.25 in across 1000 sq ft, the example is 20.83 cu ft before waste, or 0.81 cu yd with 5% added. The depth is an input for this example; confirm your actual soil preparation needs.
